Because literacy learning is complex, I believe that children deserve individualized learning experiences that are authentic, meaningful, and relevant. Likewise, teachers deserve professional learning experiences embedded in their daily practice, build on their strengths, and focus on their professional decision-making as educators. Literacy teaching and learning should be grounded in current research from both literacy research scholars and practitioners. I see myself as this middle ground, striving to connect theory to practice inside local classrooms.
